Sealing of joints

Sealing of joints

The project was managed by the company KFS Service de Canalisation Payerne.

The local main sewerage system of the town of Le Locle runs directly under a new building. The installation of new sheet piles has caused vibrations in the ground area and thus lowered the 2m x 2m canal. The joints have been damaged and now groundwater can infiltrate and waste water can exfiltrate. With the help of the foam resin resiFill and the epoxy resin resiTwin EP thix the canal is sealed again, the components are are now permanently flexible bonded. The two resins are injected with the resiGun AIR.

First the infiltrating ground water must be stopped, for this case resiFill is the best choice. As the cracks are very large and long, resiFill is used in this project without a grouting packer. In order to prevent the resin from being washed away by very strong water pressure, the opening is sealed with a piece of cloth and the material is injected next to it. The PU resin has a foaming factor greater than 10 and spreads quickly in the cavities. The finished product, a viscous-elasticfoam, stops the water infiltration. Now the areas are permanently sealed with resiTwin EP thix. The thixotropic resin is applied to the joints with a static mixer.

resiTwin EP is available in two versions and is optimised for different tasks. One of the advantages of the thixotropic version (resiTwin EP thix) is that it can be used horizontally and vertically as well as overhead. Thanks to resiGun, grouting is quick and easy and all joints are permanently sealed. Due to its shock-absorbing effect, the resin absorbs and dampens all further vibrations. This prevents further damage.
